Friday’s Fave Fives

Through some writing linkups this week, I discovered a fabulous place hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story. Since a week can have up and down parts, it is good to reflect at the end of the week and just post about your five favorite things from your week. It’s designed to help you intentionally focus on the hand of God bringing blessings in our lives above all else. That’s what Friday’s Fave Five is all about.

1. My niece’s 19th birthday. A birthday dinner and party for my niece was a nice break in the week on Wednesday evening with good family time and cause for celebration. I found a beautiful flower arrangement on a local florist site and had them delivered to surprise my niece on her birthday. The flowers were even more stunning than they were on the website, which is not always the case. I also gave her a gift card to her favorite cafe that serves boba tea and sushi she was excited about.

2. An afternoon at the arcade. I had a very unusual afternoon in the middle of a workday this week. Another department was having a team summit this week and invited me to join their team building event one afternoon. We all went to a Dave & Busters which I can only describe as “a Chucky Cheese for adults”. Our group was broken into several teams and sent on a scavenger hunt that could only be accomplished by playing the games throughout the place. We were provided with a yummy spread of food for lunch as well. This was a very fun excursion, unique to this week.

3. Successful presentation. I was asked to come to the team summit on the second day to speak on a topic they were interested in. It was a smaller group made up of people I knew and fairly informal so I wasn’t as nervous as I might have normally been, but I was pleased it went very well.

4. Anticipation for a friend’s book launch. One of my favorite things this week was the anticipation I felt buzzing on the back burner for my friend’s book launch this weekend for her newly published book. I offered to come a little early to help set up and am looking forward to catching up with my friend and supporting her in this celebration of a big accomplishment!

5. Writing helped with trepidation about Mothers Day this weekend. I dusted off a blog post from a couple of years ago I wrote called “Mothers Day When You’re Not a Mother” and rereading it brought me clarity and encouragement as I face this weekend which can be a bit tough for me each year. This week instead of dreading it, I’ve been looking forward to a Christian online conference I registered for Friday night on having the courage for change, helping with my friend’s book launch on Saturday and treating myself to a special treat on Sunday. Most of all, God’s sweet reminders of His great and unconditional love for me brought me peace this week.

How was your week?

  2. Hello, thank you for stopping at my blog. I am not sure if your name is Jewell or not. I enjoyed your grateful list. How nice that your friend is publishing a book. I read your article about motherhood. I am sorry it is a hard time for you. I know it was for me so long ago when I went through infertility. I finally was able to have to sons naturally and a daughter through adoption. I think that you are dealing with it the best you can. I admire how you are living your life and being there for others. I had a close relationship with my aunt, and I am sure your niece is blessed to have you in her life!

  6. Welcome to FFF! The birthday dinner for your niece sounds nice. I don't know if I'd do very well at a scavenger hunt involving arcade games, LOL! I'm glad the presentation went well and involved people you already knew. Authors need all the help they can get, and I am sure your friend appreciated your help.
