It all started with me leaving work around 4:00 and talking on my cell phone with my sister on the drive home. I was feeling a little melancholy about not really having any plans for the weekend, being single and not dating anyone right now, and being in a new city a relatively short time with not a lot of friends yet. She encouraged me to turn my thinking around and make some plans for myself for the weekend to spend time on hobbies and other things I enjoy.
So....When I got home around 4:45 I took my dog out for a little walk, made a cup of coffee in the French Press, and called in a couple of orders of Basil Leaf Chicken from a great Thai restaurant just down the street. I picked up my dinner 15 minutes later and rented a movie, Anna and the King, from the Blockbuster next door.

Back at home, I changed into comfy clothes, lit some candles, curled up with my dog on the couch and put another movie in the DVD player first I'd been waiting to watch for weeks.
It was Evening, the perfect movie for a melancholy night. It is the story of an elderly woman who is at the end of her life and looking back at her choices, trying to determine if she did the right things or made mistakes. Her two daughters are by her side, also looking at their own lives. One of the daughters has a man who loves her but she is a self-desribed "commitment-phobe" and doesn't know if she will ever feel sure. Her sister tells her "If you continue wanting to be 'bad' and screw up everything and everyone around you, the probability is very high you will end up alone."
The realization that perhaps there are no such things as mistakes in life, but all those things that did not turn out as well as expected are all a part of life is what gives the mother the peace to go on and gives the daughter the courage to commit to a man who loves her and promises to do his best to be there for her no matter how "unloveable" she may be sometimes.
A few tears streaked my face as the credits rolled and beautiful music played at the end. Evening is a wonderful movie that makes you reflect upon your own life and choices, no matter where you are in life.
What made the night even more perfect was the thunderstorm outside as I started the movie and began tasting my basil leaf chicken. The rain fell steadily for hours, while I watched Evening and then Anna and the King.
I am still listening to the rain falling outside, a perfect rainy night, except for just one thing...I would love to have the company of a man who I love and who loves me enjoying the beautiful evening with me. Someday soon.....
Good night and sweet dreams :)
That sounds like a good movie I'd like to watch.
